It’s only taken 18 years but Eamonn Holmes finally came face to face with magician David Blaine after that infamous interview where the star deliberately blanked him on camera.
If you missed it the first time around back in 2001, fear not… we have the footage further down of a baffled Eamonn on former ITV breakfast show GMTV doing his best to elicit answers from what can only be described as a possessed David Blaine answering him monosyllabically or by showing the ‘eye on the hand’.
This week David came on to ITV’s This Morning and explained why he acted the ‘wicked and cruel’ way he did to our lovely Eamonn and revealed it was on purpose’.
David said: “We were all talking in the green room before the show with all the guests’ friends and family. I noticed no one was watching their friends go on, so I thought ‘I’m going to make sure everyone looks’.
“I thought a card trick would be boring.
“At the last minute, I came up with that idea and thought it was funny.”
To which Eamonn retorted: “I’m glad one of us found it funny. My hair turned grey right after that. Don’t you think that was wicked and cruel?
“It was the longest six minutes of my life.”
Eamonn also accused David of causing him to be 22 minutes late for the show after he was held up in traffic and missed the start of his presenting duties.
“As if by magic, I am here after a huge accident,” he said.
“It brought the centre of London to a standstill.”
Joking that David Blaine had used his magic powers to make him late, Eamonn added: “Are you telling me it’s a coincidence? I haven’t seen this man in years, and this happens.”
Thankfully, this time things got off on a better footing and David was the politest guest entertaining Eamonn’s co-presenter and wife Ruth Langsford with his incredible card tricks – and mesmerised Eamonn by producing a folded up card from underneath the presenter’s watch.
