Christmas party season is set to kick off with a bang with the news that Aldi’s sell-out six-litre bottle of Prosecco is back for the 2019 festive season.

Yes, fizz fans, from November 1 you will be able to get your hands on the methuselah of Prosecco.

And there’s enough in the bottle to fill 96 glasses!

It’s the same size as eight normal bottles and costs £99.

However, when you break that down to cost per glass, it’s a rather refreshing £1.03 per drink.

Aldi describes the fizz as “light, fun and frothy – with notes of parma violets, ripe pear and papaya, as well as having a soft and well-balanced palate”.

The main thing is to take it slow to avoid any spills and wastage!

It’ll be available online, but it’s one per customer – while stocks last!

It sold out in just 24 hours last year, so you need to be quick if you want the drink that’s surely at the top of everyone’s Christmas list.

Aldi’s resident wine expert Sam Caporn has also revealed his top tips for enjoying the fizz.

Sam said: “We all know that it’s vital to chill your bottle of bubbly before serving, but if you don‘t have the luxury of a completely empty fridge, getting your Methuselah cool can be a little trickier than your average bottle.”

He added: “I’d recommend chilling your methuselah in a large bucket filled with ice, or leaving it outside if it’s nice and cold, to get that lovely cool fizz.”

Sam explained that opening the bottle would be a two-person job, and had some top tips to ensure you don’t spill a drop.

“First remove the muzzle – but make sure you keep hold of the cork at all times. Now it’s time for a little help from your friends – one of you needs to hold the base of the bottle while the other looks after the neck,” he said.

“Pointing away from the party of people, twist the bottle (and not the cork) until the cork gently loosens,” he said.

And, once you’ve heard that pop, start pouring.

“Again this is a two man-job – so you’ll need a friend (one holding the base and one holding the neck). The main thing is to take it slow to avoid any spills and wastage,” he said.

Twitter, of course, reacted to the booze news with humour.
