Frozen food company Birds Eye has issued an urgent product recall after bits of plastic were found in bags of chicken nuggets.
The American firm has said some of its Birds Eye 50 Chicken Nuggets with Golden Wholegrain, in 790g bags, could contain small pieces of clear plastic.
On its website, the company explained that affected bags would be “unsafe to eat” and urged shoppers to check near the best before date to see if theirs was among the batches believed to be affected.

The recalled batches are those with the codes L9208 W V124, L9208 X V124, L9208 Y V124 or L9208 Z V124 near the best before end date, which is October 2020.
Birds Eye said anyone who finds one of the above batch codes on a bag they have bought can cut out the part of the packaging with the code and send it to the firm’s address in London – Birds Eye Limited Freepost, ADM3939, London, SW1A 1YS.
Alternatively, customers have the option of taking it back to the store where they made the purchase for a full refund.
Asda is among the retailers that stocks the 750g bags of Birds Eye 50 Chicken Nuggets with Golden Wholegrain, selling them for £3.75.
At Morrisons, they are going for the offer price of £3, while at Tesco they cost £3 as standard and in Sansbury’s, £4.
Birds Eye has assured customers that no other batches other than those with the codes listed, and no other products, are affected.
As reported by The Sun, a spokesperson for the company said: “The safety of everyone who enjoys and loves our products is of the utmost importance to us.

“As soon as we became aware of a potential situation with our chicken nuggets, we immediately investigated and took precautionary action.
“This particular batch may contain small pieces of clear plastic due to an isolated manufacturing fault and we simply do not want to risk people consuming it.”
