The perfect way to make a cup of tea has been revealed and it’s fair to say it’s opened a can of worms.
Tea makers Twinings – an expert when it comes to the perfect way to make a cup of tea – reckons it has settled the age-old milk or tea first riddle.
However, one look on Twitter confirms Brits aren’t happy with the company’s findings.
What is the perfect way to make a cup of tea?
Well, according to Twinings, you put the milk in first.
Yes, really.
One of the country’s leading tea brands says you should add milk, then your tea.

The website states: “When adding milk, pour it into the cup before adding your tea. This allows the milk to cool the tea, rather than letting the tea heat the milk.”
Although it was pretty clear Twinings was instructing people to make their tea in a pot, not a cup, Twitter soon erupted.
“Listen I don’t care what Twinings says, it’s always milk last when making a cup of tea,” slammed one.
This is more offensive than anything that’s happened in the past six months! Never milk first

Twinings is the official tea supplier to Her Majesty The Queen.
So if it’s good enough for her, perhaps we should take heed?
What if you’re not using a teapot?
Speaking to Town & Country, Stephen Twinings also offered advice how to make the perfect cup of tea.
You must enjoy it the way you like it.
“First, warm your kettle with hot water and discard that liquid. Then, draw fresh cold water, and heat it to exactly its boiling point,” the advice read.

“Immediately pour the water over your tea bag and wait – maybe longer than seems necessary – for the cup to steep,” it continued.
You should then add milk and sugar to taste.
Moreover, Stephen advised: “You must enjoy it the way you like it.”
Indeed, Brits have their own ideas of what makes the perfect cuppa.
“Milk first is okay if you pour tea from a teapot. If you brew your tea in the cup, then water first,” one stated.
“Barbaric”
“You only add the milk first if you’ve made the tea in a pot. Anything else is barbaric,” said another.
A third had a difference of opinion, though.
“When making tea, the milk goes in first. This is the only correct way to make tea. This is the BRITISH way to make tea,” they tweeted.
