But what if someone needs to sit on the throne?!

It was confirmed that thieves had made off with the gleaming throne overnight – and that the palace has been shut while an investigation takes place.

The Mirror reports that the gold loo was installed only last week before being snatched last night (Friday September 13).

The toilet was part of an art exhibition, and had previously been on display at the Guggenheim Museum in New York.

Police said the incident – which was said to have happened at around 5am this morning – caused “substantial damage and flooding”.

A 66-year-old man has reportedly been arrested in connection with the missing throne.

The palace, near Woodstock in Oxfordshire and the birthplace of Winston Churchill, has issued a series of statements on its Twitter feed.

“Following the Thames Valley Police statement we can confirm ‘America’, the art piece by Maurizio Cattelan has been stolen in the early hours of this morning.

“We are saddened by this extraordinary event, but also relieved no-one was hurt.”

The Palace also went onto to thank the police and explain that it would be shut for the day.

The palace hosted the wedding between Saturdays singer and This Morning presenter Rochelle Humes and husband Marvin Humes seven years ago.

She posted a collection of stunning images from their 2012 nuptials earlier this summer.
