Game of Thrones actor Jason Momoa, has been forced to apologise after previous “rape” comments he made have been unearthed.
During a 2011 press conference, the actor – who played Dothraki leader Khal Drogo on Games of Thrones and has recently been cast as Aquaman in the latest Justice League film – spoke about the show’s sexual violation scenes in a manner that was wholly inappropriate.
Now the comments have been revealed in a clip uploaded to Twitter.
He said: “As far as sci-fi and fantasy…there is so much you can do, like rip someone’s tongue out of their throat and get away with it.
“And rape beautiful women!”

In response, Jason’s GoT co-star Kit Harington buried his head in his hands, while Emilia Clarke – whose character Daenerys Targaryen was raped by Jason’s in the programme – followed suit and did the same moments later.
Jason then continued: “And fall in love with them! You know what I mean?”
Now the clip has resurfaced, Jason has responded in a statement posted on his Instagram.
He wrote: ““I awoke in Australia to the justified reactions by many people to a distasteful joke I made years ago in Hall H for which I am sorry.
“I am still severely disappointed in myself at the insensitivity of my remarks that day. I know my sincerest apology now won’t take away those hurtful words.
“Rape and sexual harassment can reach anyone and I have seen first hand its painful torment among members of my own family and friends.”
Some Twitter users were outraged at the uncovered footage. One wrote: “I don’t believe rape can be joked about. We’re not a medieval culture with women as slaves (I hope !)”
Others were equally concerned by the audience’s reaction.

“The number of people that laughed is just as concerning and dangerous. It speaks to what MANY in society found “acceptable”….”
However, some people responded by thanking him for his apology.
“This is how you apologise. You are a wonderful ally and your sincerity is MUCH appreciated,” said one.
