Eamonn Holmes’ ancestors too ‘boring’ for Who Do You Think You Are?

Not everyone can be Danny Dyer...

There have been many incredible ancestral stories on Who Do You Think You Are? over the years.

From Danny Dyer discovering he was a direct descendant of Edward III to Sarah Jessica Parker finding out her relatives were tried as witches during the Salem Witch Trials.

There’s been no shortage of incredible, emotional and unexpected twists and turns on the popular genealogy show.

So when Eamonn Homes was approached by producers about tracing his own family tree he was no doubt excited about what he might uncover about the past.

But, er, unfortunately for him, that didn’t quite happen…

It turns out Eamonn’s family were all so “boring” and normal that bosses didn’t think there was a strong enough back story to film a whole episode around his relatives.

Which is good on the one hand as it means there’s no hidden Holmes murderers, adulterers or shock family secrets down his line, but also sad as, let’s face it, who wouldn’t want to know more about their past?

According to Mirror, the only thing producers could dig up was the fact Eamonn comes from a long, long, long – did we mention long? – line of Northern Irish farmers.

Eamonn, 57, admitted: “They interviewed me for two days and got all this documentation from me.

“But they never, ever got back to me. That was seven years ago.

Eamonn may find comfort, however, in the fact he’s not the only celebrity whose family was deemed too dull for TV.

Legendary interviewer Michael Parkinson said in 2009 that producers gave up researching his family tree after failing to find anything interesting.

In an interview with the Radio Times, he said: “I had known for some time that the story of my genealogy was unremarkable.

“On my father’s side miners and farm labourers; on my mother’s railwaymen and domestics.

“So when Who Do You Think You Are? called and asked if I was interested, I said I would be delighted, but warned that my own research had unearthed nothing of note. ‘Oh, they all say that. But we always find something,’ they said.

“Six weeks later they phoned to apologise. My story was so boring they had to cancel the entire project.

“I was gutted.”

Well, not everyone can be a Danny Dyer, right?

The EastEnders hardman was stunned earlier this year when he appeared on the show and found out he’s descended from royalty.

In an episode branded the best Who Do You Think You Are? ever, the actor was shocked when it emerged he’s a direct descendant of Edward III.

King Danny does have a ring to it…
