Alan Carr has opened up about a recent health scare that’s him fearing he’s “losing” his eyesight.
While speaking to fellow comedian Grace Campbell on his podcast Life’s A Beach, he revealed he has astigmatism.
The treatable condition affects the shape of the eye, causing blurred vision. Although Alan had it checked by the doctors, he’s afraid he’s “losing vision” as he can feel things changing with his sight.
Alan Carr opens up about eye treatment
On the podcast, Alan aske Grace whether she’s long or short-sighted, before telling her about his own condition causing “too much pressure in his eyes”.
The comedian explained: “‘I’ve got astigmatism – I kept telling people I had stigmata, like the wounds of Christ. Get over yourself, Alan.”
He then added: “I had a bit of a health scare. I went to Moorfields. I’ve got something wrong with my eyes – quite a bit of pressure.”
Losing my sight is my worst thing, and I can feel it getting worse.
Alan recollected telling the doctors he “hates” having anything enter his eyes. He told Grace: “I hate the glaucoma thing when they squirt the air in your eyes. I had something wrong with my eyes in the cornea. I was so worried.
“He had to basically choke me because this air going into my eye was too much. At Moorfields, they anaesthetised my eyeball and then the spike came in onto the lens to see if it worked,” he continued.
Comedian is worried about surgery
Alan is so scarred from his eye check-up that he compared his procedure to a gory scene in the American horror movie Saw.
“They said: ‘Just relax Alan, and just concentrate on the spike going into your eye.’ I’m like excuse me? [Bleep]ing what? Oh good, the spike is coming closer. Relax! It was so surreal. Losing my sight is my worst thing, and I can feel it getting worse.”
Alan said he needs an op on his eyeballs and said they “need draining” because they have too much pressure. The comedian did not reveal when he plans on undergoing the procedure.
The comedian had another health scare two years ago. Devastated by the death of his beloved pooch, Alan mistook his health problem for a symptom of grief.
However, he later realised that he was suffering from a bad case of salmonella poisoning after eating a chicken sandwich.
