She’s set to release a parenting manual, ‘Winging it’, in a matter of weeks, but after facing the hurdles of being a first-time mum, The One Show’s Alex Jones has thrown herself into a new challenge, which she describes as “my worst nightmare”. Eek!
So what exactly is it?
Well…Alex posted an Instagram snap of her wearing a wetsuit – revealing that she’s in training to swim Scotland’s Loch Ness for Sport Relief. Yes, the Loch Ness. No wonder Alex’s challenge is aptly named #themotherofallchallenges.
Alex, who turns 41 next Sunday, wrote alongside the snap, “So preparation for this year’s @sportrelief challenge just went up a notch.
“Cold water swimming in the Serpentine in Hyde Park. This is all prep for the first day of the #motherofallchallenges, which will see five of us swim the Loch Ness.”
Sharing her fears with her fans, Alex explained, “I’m a [rubbish] swimmer and rubbish in the cold so this is my worst nightmare, but a huge thanks to the Women’s British Triathlon team for coming along to coach and for the much-needed moral support.”
After her swim, Alex headed straight back to work for a much-deserved hot cuppa, and fans praised her tremendous effort and sent their messages of support.
One however, did quip that she is a ‘glutton for punishment’.
All in the name of a great cause!

This isn’t the first time Alex has completed such a tough task in the name of charity.
In 2016, she sailed from Belfast to London in freezing temperatures for the Sport Relief challenge ‘Hell On High Seas’.
Then back in 2014, the much-loved presenter scaled the Moonlight Buttress mountain in Zion, National Park, Utah. Is there any stopping this woman?
On the upside, Alex joked her gruelling challenge means she was able to enjoy a huge slice of banana loaf when Mary Berry visited the office last month!
Not only has Alex been refreshingly honest about her fears over open-water swimming, but has revealed the experiences of being a mum for the first time, writing in her book, she may have been “a bit too close to the knuckle”.
“It’s undoubtedly been the best year but so bloody hard at times. So this book is a very honest account of the last 18 months. The highs, the lows and everything in-between,” she admitted.

With everything she’s endured so far, we’re pretty sure Alex will face her nightmare head on.
