Host of The One Show, the gorgeous Alex Jones, recently opened up about her husband Charlie’s “debilitating” struggles with his mental health.

As well as that, Alex also shared the impact it has had on her young family.

Alex married insurance broker Charlie Thomson on New Year’s Eve in 2015. The couple now have two sons – Teddy, six, and Kit, four – and a two-year-old daughter named Annie.

Alex Jones on husband Charlie: ‘The fallout is full on’

Last summer, Alex candidly shared that Charlie had been suffering with depression, something that she struggled to know how to deal with.

“It knocks you for a six as a family,” she said, in conversation on Elizabeth Day’s How To Fail podcast. “Not just the person going through it but the person that then has to deal with the fallout of the whole thing. It’s full on.”

She continued heartbreakingly: “I’ve watched, listened, read about people discussing it, and I think, christ on a bike, you need to come over to our house because that’s not what’s going on here.”

“It’s not just talking therapy straight away,” she explained further. “We needed a lot more before we could even get to that point, you know?

“It was debilitating for him and I was stuck in my mum’s kind of mindset of  ‘Oh, for goodness sake, come on… Come on, tomorrow’s going to be better.’ And I feel awful for being like that when now we understand a lot more about it.”

More recently, Alex has shared the hopeful news that things are back on the up for Charlie.

“He’s good, yes,” she told Gabby Logan on her podcast. “He’s in a way better place now to where we were.”
