Ant McPartlin given new court hearing date after drink-drive charge

His original court date was set for April 4

Ant McPartlin will appear in court charged with drink-driving almost one month after the alleged incident.

The TV presenter was due to appear at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday charged with the offence.

But the hearing was adjourned to April 16, a spokeswoman for the court said.

“An adjournment in this case has been agreed,” she said. “Ant McPartlin will not be appearing at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday. He will appear in court on Monday, April 16.”

Ant was charged by postal requisition on March 21 after allegedly being involved in a collision with two other cars while he was driving his Mini in Richmond, west London, on March 18.

After he was charged, ITV announced that the 42-year-old’s co-presenter Declan Donnelly would go on to present the end of the current series of Saturday Night Takeaway on his own.

His publicist said: “Ant has decided to go back into treatment and step down from his current TV commitments. He has spoken with Dec and ITV and asked for time off for the foreseeable future.”

An episode of Saturday Night Takeaway was cancelled after Ant’s arrest, but it returned to the air on March 31.

During the last episode, Dec joked he had “twice the amount of work to do”, and at one point said: “I’ll have to do it myself, like everything else this week.”

He also thanked viewers and fans for their support.

Dec will now continue to host the series finale of Saturday Night Takeaway alone.

The show will broadcast from Universal Orlando Resort in Florida on Saturday evening, where Dec will be joined by show regulars Scarlett Moffatt and Stephen Mulhern.

Many details of the episode have been kept under wraps so far, but ITV has promised “incredible stunts and superstar guests”.

The Rembrandts – famous for the Friends theme song – will perform in Singalong Live, while Stephen will host a special US version of In For A Penny.

The final episode of mini sketch series Saturday Knight Takeaway will also air, along with the regular ‘Win The Ads’ competition.
