Ayda Field reveals son’s secret health battle

She opened up about her son during the Pride of Britain Awards

Ayda Field has spoken about her son Charlie’s secret health battle for the first time.

The X Factor judge, 39, revealed her four-year-old little boy was ill while presenting the Child of Courage award to Ella Chadwick, 11, at the Pride of Britain Awards.

Ayda admitted she felt “vulnerable” and “powerless” when her son, who she has with husband Robbie Williams, became ill.

When asked about Ella’s inspirational story, Ayda opened up about their own son’s health woes.

She said: “My son’s had health problems. Nothing as serious as Ella’s, but when your child is ill you feel so vulnerable, so powerless.

“Nothing else in the world matters until they’re well again.”

The Loose Women panellist added: “So I really felt all Ella’s mum’s worry and pain. To see Ella so strong, sweet, selfless and cheeky, is so uplifting.”

During the emotional show, footballer David Beckham surprised little Ella with the Child of Courage award.

Ella was born with a rare-kidney disease and endured six years on dialysis before undergoing two kidney transplants.

She has since helped other children battling illness and often writes get well cards to hand out to the kids in the local hospital.

David, 43, surprised Ella at Great Ormond Street Hospital and got involved in the cardmaking before later delivering them to the children on the ward.

Speaking about Ella, Ayda gushed: “To see Ella so strong, sweet, selfless and cheeky, is so uplifting.

“It’s good for the soul to hear such stories and meet special people like Ella.”

Ayda and Robbie are also parents to their daughters Theordora, six, and baby Colette, who was born in September.

The couple surprised fans at the time by announcing they had welcomed another child, daughter Coco, via a surrogate.

Ayda told fans the little girl was “biologically ours” and was carried by “an incredible surrogate mother”.

She added that she and Robbie were “over the moon to have this beautiful girl in our lives”.
