BBC Breakfast made a blunder on Wednesday morning after showing a photo of comedian Steve Punt during an interview with Eric Idle.
The Monty Python legend appeared on the early-morning show to talk to hosts Dan Walker and Louise Minchin about his new “sortabiography” called Always Look on the Bright Side of Life and his successful career in comedy.
As the hosts chatted with Eric, 75, a display of photos popped up behind them.

However, viewers spotted that one of the pictures was of Steve and not Eric. Whoops!
To be fair, Steve did once play Eric in the 2011 BBC adaptation of Holy Flying Circus in 2011.
Viewers immediately took to Twitter to call out the show on the blunder.
One person said: “Eric Idle is so polite he hasn’t mentioned the fact that there’s a giant picture of Steve Punt on the screen behind him on @BBCBreakfast.”
Another asked: “@BBCBreakfast isn’t that a picture of Steve Punt on the left during your @EricIdle piece this morning?” alongside a screenshot of the interview.

So was the picture of Steve Punt playing Eric Idle meant to be there – or a mistake on @BBCBreakfast ? pic.twitter.com/j3tNofcbni

Even though Eric hasn’t spoken about the blunder, he did retweet one message from a viewer who had spotted the mistake which suggests he realised it too!
Eric is best known for his work with comedy group Monty Python, which also included members John Cleese, Terry Jones, Michael Palin, Terry Gilliam and the late Graham Chapman.
In 2014, the group reunited for a series of shows at London’s O2 arena.
