BBC newsreader Peter Sissons has died aged 77

Former BBC newsreader Peter Sissons has died at the age of 77.

Peter was a host on BBC Nine O’Clock News and the BBC Ten O’Clock News between 1993 and 2003.

He has also been a newsreader for ITN, hosting segments on ITV and Channel 4.

Peter has also been a presenter on BBC’s Question Time.

He retired from the BBC in 2009.

His agent confirmed Peter passed away on October 2, 2019.

Tributes have already began pouring in on Twitter.

One fan wrote: “RIP #PeterSissons Thank you for making the news, and #QuestionTime politics interesting and enjoyable to watch. 77 is no age these days. Another sad loss for 2019.”

Another said: “Sad to hear of the death of Peter Sissons. A remarkable career.”

A third tweeted: “RIP Peter Sissons one of the best BBC news anchors ever.”

Fellow BBC newsreader Simon McCoy wrote: “Very sorry to hear of the death of former colleague Peter Sissons. A great journalist and a fine presenter at ITN and the BBC. #RIP.”

ITV News Consumer Editor Chris Choi said: “Great sadness here at ITN at the death of Peter Sissons who worked here from 1964, he was Industrial Editor in the 1970s and then presenter of News at One.”

Good Morning Britain presenter Piers Morgan wrote: “RIP Peter Sissons, 77. An excellent journalist & TV newsreader, and splendidly combative & amusing man.”

Sky News presenter Alison Comyn added: “Sorry to hear of the passing of one of the original and best newsreaders (as we were then called before US telly) of all time.

“An experienced journalist, with a wonderful voice, and calming presence.”
