Ben Shephard – whose hosts Tipping Point on ITV1 – once opened up about how his marathon running days came to an abrupt end.
The 49-year-old This Morning host was a big marathon runner before a “middle-aged” injury put an end to that hobby.
Tipping Point host Ben Shephard on marathon running days ending
Back in 2018, Ben injured his back after giving his friend a bear hug.
Fast-forward to 2022, and in an interview with OK! magazine, the TV star revealed that his marathon-running days were done thanks to the injury.
“I’m not going to be doing any more marathons. Ironically, not because of my knee but because my back’s so bad,” he said at the time.
“That’s one of the things about hitting 50 – my body can’t keep up with my enthusiasm for exercise,” he then went on to say.
Ben didn’t take a day off when recovering from his back injury, as Susanna Reid revealed at the time.
“Ben had done himself a serious injury but instead of saying ‘give me the week off’, he took some extra strong painkillers and came back on air,” she said at the time.

Tipping Point host Ben Shephard talks ACL injury
Things went from bad to worse for Ben, when, in 2021, he tore his ACL.
“It was horrific. Exercise is so important for my mental wellbeing. With my work being so busy it’s the one thing I can control and I struggled,” he confessed during the interview.
He went on to explain how his wife, Annie, was “desperate” for him to go out for a run. In the end, he got a handbike, because he couldn’t cycle, run, or swim while recovering.
Ben then went on to hint that he could get back into football, much to Annie’s “disgust” as it was in football he got injured originally!
Ben’s x-rated joke
Last year, Ben made an x-rated joke while speaking about how he got into the telly business.
His cheeky quip came during a round of golf with Soccer AM’s Tubes.
During their game – which was filmed as part of Tubes’ Golf Life YouTube channel – Ben was asked how he got into the industry.
“I just slept with all the right people!” the former GMB star joked.
But Ben went on to explain how his TV career began when he was in university and he auditioned for a role presenting the weather for a local news station.
