Bobi, the world’s oldest dog ever, has sadly died at the incredible age of 31 and tributes have poured in online.
The adorable pooch, a purebred Rafeiro do Alentejo, died on Saturday at his home in Portugal.
Veterinarian Dr Karen Becker, who met Bobi several times, confirmed the news over the weekend.
World’s oldest dog Bobi dies at 31
She said: “Last night, this sweet boy earned his wings. Despite outliving every dog in history, his 11,478 days on Earth would never be enough for those who loved him.
“Godspeed, Bobi … you’ve taught the world all you were meant to teach.”
Guinness World Record holder Bobi became the oldest living dog and the oldest dog ever in February. The previous eldest dog ever was Australia’s Bluey who died in 1939 at the age of 29.
Adorable Bobi – who was born in 1992 – lived his whole life with the Costa family in Conqueiros, Portugal.
He was born in an outhouse with three siblings. Leonel Costa said the puppies had to be put down as his family had too many animals.
However, Bobi escaped and continued to live at the rural home. Mr Costa said Bobi’s long life was thanks to the “calm, peaceful environment” he lived in “far from the cities”.
Tributes have poured in online for Bobi.
One person said on X – formerly Twitter: “What a good boy. He’s running free over the Rainbow Bridge and into the Everlasting Fields of Heaven. His owner will see him again.”
Another wrote: “Rest on the wings of eternity, Bobi.”
A third tweeted: “RIP in paradise, Bobi.”
