Britain could bask in a 27C scorcher in the coming weeks as May comes to a cold and wet end.
According to forecasters, June will get off to a sizzling start with temperatures this weekend set to reach the mid-20s in some areas.
The Met Office has said the post-Bank Holiday conditions will be cool and wet but it will become warm and humid after Friday (May 31).

This weekend (June 1 and 2) will enjoy a spell of warm weather and Britain may even see its hottest temperatures of the year so far, with forecasters predicting highs of 27C.
Tuesday (May 28) will bring sunshine and showers for many, and thunder is possible in some areas.
Into tonight, persistent rain will gradually spread into Northern Ireland, Wales and southwest England.
On Wednesday, cloud and rain will slowly spread east with some heavy bursts possible.
However, sunshine and showers are likely in northern Scotland.
Temperatures will begin to climb on Friday, as some places hit 22C.
Forecasters are predicting long sunny spells in many sheltered central and southern areas as it becomes warm and humid on Saturday (June 1)
The Met Office said temperatures could even hit 27C in those areas on Saturday.
The high temperatures will make the UK hotter than some places in Spain, including Ibiza and Barcelona – where highs of 23-24C are predicted.

Met Office meteorologist Aidan McGivern told the Mirror: “Further south, [there will be] sunny skies through Saturday and Sunday and temperatures climbing into the mid or even high 20s.
“A very warm weekend to come in the south [with] hot sunshine developing in the far southeast.”
