Britain should prepare for another very hot spell of weather, Met Office forecasters have warned.

After July temperatures broke records, we could be set for even more scorching days starting from next week.

According to a report in The Sun, a huge Atlantic hurricane could trigger another heatwave next week.

The hot weather could be caused by a ‘disturbance spotted today in the mid-Atlantic’, which could spark a spell of high temperatures if it turns into a fully-fledged cyclone.

The potential hurricane has been dubbed ‘Disturbance 2’.

A large storm could disrupt the jetstream – a band of wind seven miles up that dictates whether we get warm or cold air.

Met Office forecaster told the newspaper: “If there is a hurricane in the Atlantic, then theoretically that could disrupt the jetstream and bring a warm spell.

“Having said that, we’re definitely not expecting any heatwaves from this disturbance next week.

“There will be some warm air in the south next week but that’ll have nothing to do with the jestream. Early August is actually looking pretty unsettled at the moment.”

The news comes after torrential rain in the Yorkshire Dales caused flash flooding, roads to be closed, bridges to collapse and homes ruined.

A month’s rain fell in just four hours, and the Met Office issued a yellow warning for rain across much of the north of England.

The BBC reports that roads remain shut and rail passengers faced disruption after a landslip between Carlisle and Skipton.

The fire service had to pump out some new homes in the town after the water hit, some of the residents moved in just two months ago.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said it received about 165 calls to flooding in Leyburn and Reeth on Tuesday evening.
