Britain’s Got Talent hopeful accused of drug smuggling

A former Britain’s Got Talent contestant appeared in court today accused of smuggling cannabis.

Olivia Archbold, 21, was charged after two separate consignments were seized from the Netherlands.

They had allegedly been addressed to her flat.

The court heard that cannabis was also found growing in a bedroom at a property rented by her and her boyfriend in Manchester.

The defendant spoke only to confirm her name, date of birth and enter not guilty pleas to the allegations Manchester Magistrates’ Court.

She faces two charges, one of being concerned in the fraudulent evasion of a prohibition on the importation of a class B drug and being concerned in the supply of a controlled drug of Class B.

Archbold was remanded on bail to appear at Manchester Crown Court.

Her boyfriend, Alex Nash, has already been charged by cops and will appear before Manchester Crown Court on August 30 later this year.

Prosecuting “A Mr Nash has already been charged and will appear at Manchester Crown Court for a pre trial preparation hearing on August 30. The court has asked that this matter be adjourned to the same date.

“Between April and June two separate consignments of herbal cannabis were found destined for an address in Manchester. Both were addressed to Miss Archbold from the Netherlands.

“There was a 12 month tenancy agreement signed by Mr Nash and Miss Archbold.

“The landlord went to the address to show a new tenant around when a cannabis cultivation was found in the box bedroom.”

The young woman appeared on the ITV talent show in 2010 when she was just 14 and wowed the judges with her singing.

Archbold, who attended an all girls’ private school, made it to the semi-finals of the ITV1 talent show in 2010.

She reached the semi-finals and received a standing ovation for her rendition of the Sarah McLachlan song In the Arms of Angels.

The budding singer was even tipped as the next Charlotte Church.

Simon Cowell told her: “You sang so well and you made it your own version.

“I am so impressed with you Olivia I can’t begin to tell you.”
