The actor, who has reportedly denied the allegations, made the following statement when they came to light.

“Sadly, I will no longer be working on Coronation Street. Acting on the show has been the fulfilment of a personal dream.

“Playing the role of Todd Grimshaw since I was 17 years old has been a huge part of my life, and an absolute honour.

“I would like to thank all of my friends who work on the show for their love, friendship and support during this extremely difficult period.”

He added: “I will make a further statement in due course, and when I am able to do so.”

Coronation Street bosses confirmed yesterday that Bruno no longer had a contract with the ITV soap.

“Scenes featuring Bruno will continue to be screened until December 24th. These were filmed before our inquiry started,” a show insider told Radio Times online.

The news comes after we revealed upset fans have started a petition to give Bruno back his job.

One fan called Karen Cochrane has gone as far as starting a petition on Change.org to get Bruno his job back and so far it has over 1200 signatures.

Karen wrote: “He is a fabulous actor and a major part of Corrie, and it won’t be the same without him, so please please give him his job back!”
