Builder stunned by Queen’s sweet gesture at Buckingham Palace

He offered to make him a brew!

A builder was stunned when The Queen offered him a cuppa at Buckingham Palace.

According to The Sun, the man was apparently dismantling a desk when Her Majesty apparently asked him if he would like a cup of tea.

However, the workman didn’t realise it was the Queen when he replied.

He apparently replied: “Yeah. In a mug. Two sugars. Builders’ tea. I don’t want any of that nonsense I had the last time I was here, all that fine china and all that saucer stuff.”

The woman returned and told him: “I’ve put your tea on the table here.”

As he looked up, the builder said he saw the Queen leaving the room.

The story is recounted by royal upholsterer Kevin Andrews, who knew the builder, in Channel 5 documentary Secrets of the Royal Palaces – which will air soon.

The first episode of the four-part series is set to focus on Buckingham Palace when it airs later this month.

According to the publication, other revelations made on the show include the fact that there used to be a bar within the palace walls.

However, it was apparently closed down after some members of staff were too often “worse for wear”.

The queen herself is known to enjoy a drink and her favourite is apparently a gin and Dubbonet, according to her former chef Darren McGrady.

He told CNN that the queen doesn’t drink every day, adding: “Just in the evening. She certainly doesn’t drink four glasses a day.”
