Channel 4 considers reboot of Shipwrecked, the show that made Jeff Brazier famous

Shipwrecked could be back.

The reality TV show that made Jeff Brazier famous could soon be returning to Channel 4.

A fresh-faced Jeff was just 20 when he appeared on series three of Shipwrecked back in 2001.

Now Channel 4 could be sending a new batch of young people to the South Pacific in a reboot of the show, which ran for eight series between the late nineties and 2012.

According to The Sun, Channel 4 bosses are keen to bring the show back following the success of ITV2’s Love Island.

They reportedly think the format could really appeal to millennials since the contestants get to spend time in paradise and face few hardships, except learning to get along (and coping without fast food and their mobiles).

A TV insider told the tabloid: “Lots of people have fond memories of watching Shipwrecked in their youth and dreaming about joining the fun in paradise.”

They added: “While there have been similar shows recently, like The Island and Mission Survive, they are all about making people miserable by forcing them to fight for their lives in the wild.

“On Shipwrecked, the biggest hardship the castaways faced was getting tan lines.”

Jeff – now a 38-year-old father to two sons he had with the late Jade Goody – certainly has some fond memories of his time on the show.

He said he’d love to return to the island of Fiji where his series was filmed.

“When I went on Shipwrecked in 2001, we stayed on an island called Yaukuve in Fiji. It’s such a beautiful place,” he told Heat magazine. “It turns out that it’s now a six-star resort called Kokomo Yaukuve. I think I’ll do it for my 40th birthday.”

Perhaps Channel 4 could grant his wish by casting him as a presenter?!

Jeff would take issue with how easy The Sun’s TV insider thinks Shipwrecked is, as he said it was difficult living in huts on the limited diet available on their tropical island.

He said: “I lived off yams for seven weeks when I was on Shipwrecked. We had to find them, clean them, and cook them.

“When I got to the final, we were given rice, which felt like the biggest luxury. When I see people complaining about rice on I’m A Celebrity…, it always makes me angry.”

Jeff isn’t the only one to have found fame on Shipwrecked. MTV presenter Sarah Jane Crawford was on the same series as Jeff, while Celebrity Big Brother star Stephen Bear appeared in a subsequent show.
