Channel 4 series Jade: The Reality Star Who Changed Britain left viewers feeling “uncomfortable” as it aired the infamous Celebrity Big Brother race row.
The three-part series, which started last week (07.08.19), is exploring Jade’s life – from her difficult early years to her rise to fame through Big Brother and her tragic death from cervical cancer aged just 27.
In last night’s (14.08.19) episode, viewers were taken back to Jade’s stint on Celebrity Big Brother in 2007.

Jade was involved in an explosive row, alongside model Danielle Lloyd and S Club 7 singer Jo O’Meara, that led to accusations of racism against fellow housemate and Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty.
The documentary aired a number of clips of the argument, including the shocking moment when Jade called the Indian star “Shilpa Papadum”.
In scenes re-aired after more than a decade, Jade clashed with Shilpa in a row over stock cubes. It quickly got out of hand as insults were exchanged.
Jade, stung, by a comment from Shilpa that Big Brother was her only claim to fame, said to Danielle afterwards: “Kate Moss invited me back to her house for a party, that’s my claim to fame. Not… Shilpa Darupa…”
When Danielle asked if that was really her name, Jade said: “I don’t know what her name is, particularly… Shilpa Papadum or something.”
Viewers reacted to the “hard to watch” scenes on Twitter.
One said: “#JadeGoody documentary… really uncomfortable to watch.”
Another tweeted: “Jesus, that second stint on big brother did #JadeGoody no good at all, I really don’t think she was racist, just a bit naive and maybe uneducated. Still uncomfortable to watch.”

A third wrote: “Wheeeew, the Jade and Shilpa scenes on Big Brother are so hard to watch. Pure bullying and ganging by three women on one woman, simply because they didn’t understand her culture. So cruel and horrible to watch. Big Brother execs deffo wanted to create that toxic environment. #JadeGoody.”
Someone else put: #JadeGoody man… that was difficult to watch.”
A fifth reflected: “You forget watching #JadeGoody that the internet, social media didn’t exist. What a difference that would have made.”
