Reality TV star Charlotte Crosby fought back tears on today’s This Morning as she discussed her ectopic pregnancy, which lead to her seeking the help of a psychiatrist.
Charlotte nearly died in 2016 when she went through an ectopic pregnancy and said that speaking to a psychiatrist helped her deal with the most difficult stage of her life.
According to the NHS an ectopic pregnancy “is when a fertilised egg implants itself outside of the womb, usually in one of the fallopian tubes.” The egg therefore can’t develop into a baby, and women who suffer these type of pregnancies are at serious health risk, so the egg must be removed.
Speaking to Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby, Charlotte said: “The badness was – I was so anxious – I was thinking of all these situations in my head. Is it going to come out in the press? Is it going to be leaked by someone? I didn’t want anyone to know. I didn’t know how to deal with it myself. I was worried it was going to come out in the press.”

She went on to say: “I was speaking to someone at the time – the psychiatrist and he really helped. He helped put everything into perspective.
“He helped us deal with everything I was getting anxious about. He was making me feel like it was really normal and talking it through so it didn’t feel like anything to worry about.
Clearly emotional, Charlotte continued to talk about her mental state at the time of the pregnancy. She said: “I kept it bottled in. I would think ‘what will I do when this happens’, or ‘how will I deal with this situation?’ I didn’t feel like anyone had the answers. When you let it bottle up inside you have this mental torture.
“You just don’t know what is going on. Speaking to someone who is a professional, who knows how to deal with that – I can’t even describe that. It was like he had all the answers and all the answers were right and it made me feel so much better.”

The star has discussed the traumatic experience in her newly released autobiography Brand New Me, where she talks about knowing the psychiatrist from her time on Geordie Shore and Celebrity Big Brother.
She said of the book on This Morning: “It is a nice way of everyone knowing the truth. It was nice to get everything down on paper.”
She also revealed she wants to raise awareness about ectopic pregnancies. She said: “A lot of young girls have died because they have waited too long. Not many people know the signs or symptoms of ectopic pregnancies. I know I didn’t know anything about it.
“That is why I became a founder of the ectopic pregnancy trust – just to really get it out there so everyone knows what to look out for because it is such an awful thing to have to go through.”
Poor Charlotte! What a terrible experience it must have been, but we’re glad she’s on the mend and has a lovely support around her.
