Charlotte Hawkins finally loses her cool with Good Morning Britain co-host Piers Morgan

It was a goad too far for the tired Strictly star

If there’s a pool going somewhere on when violence will break out on the set of Good Morning Britain, the odds might have just changed.

Piers Morgan found himself in danger of a head butt, after suggesting Charlotte Hawkins’ commitment to Strictly Come Dancing was affecting her mood.

Taking issue with Hawkins’ reporting of his beloved football, Morgan accused his cohosts of mindlessly reading autocues, instead of being proper journalists, like him.

In covering Arsenal striker, Alexandre Lacazette’s, goal against West Brom, she referred to him “head butting” instead of “heading” and scoring a “point” instead of a “goal”.

This proved too much for Morgan,  who accused Charlotte and co-host Susanna Reid of being “autocuties”.

Charlotte defended herself, saying: “I looked at it and he butted it with his head. I would say sport isn’t my area of expertise but you can’t say what I said was completely wrong.”

But Piers seemed to take her defence as an attack, claiming the work she’s been putting in on reality competition Strictly Come Dancing had given her a temper.

“Don’t take your anger management issues from your long days out on me young lady,” he said. “Just because Brendan is at you head butting you all day, its not my fault.”

Piers gave her first performance on the dance show this weekend, performing the foxtrot with partner, Brendan Cole.

Stepping in to defend her co-host, Susanna suggested that it was Piers who was asking for an attack.

“I’m not normally an advocate of head butting on live television,” she said, before being interrupted by Morgan.

“You were definitely hinting at physical violence against a colleague,” he said, “a coworker in the workplace, in my safe space.”

Viewers took to twitter to support Charlotte and Susanna, with some wishing the supposed threat was real. “Show him the difference between a headbutt and a header @CharlotteHawkns,” said one viewer.

Another claimed the promise of violence was their reason for watching. “I watch #GMB every morning in the hope that one of the presenters will kick Piers Morgan.”
