Paddy McGuinness’ wife Christine has confessed she felt like a full-time carer, rather than a mother, when their twins were first diagnosed with autism.
Christine opened up about raising her five-year-old twins, Penelope and Leo, with Paddy during an appearance on Good Morning Britain this Friday.
The 31-year-old said she felt bad for admitting she felt more like a “carer” but she wanted to speak out for other parents who may be experiencing the same difficulties.
The former model said during her interview on the ITV show: “It’s been different than for other parents, the first four years certainly, I feel terrible saying this, but I felt more like a carer not a mum. It’s only the last year that things have got easier.”
Christine, who also has two-year-old Felicity with Paddy, added: “When they first got diagnosed, we went and looked into it. This is a lifetime condition, there’s nothing that goes to fix it.”
Explaining that Penelope and Leo didn’t speak until they were almost four, she said: “It has got better through therapy, speech therapy and play therapy.”

The mum-of-three said Felicity has also shown some signs of autism. But she cannot be checked until she is three or four.
Christine was very open during the chat, even expressing that she and Paddy may have passed it down to their children.
“I think it is hereditary. I really struggle with socialising, the food, beige food, I’m very fussy. I like things plain and I think it’s in a bit of both of us,” she continued.

Christine’s honest words come shortly after she admitted to sometimes feeling like a “single parent” because her TV star hubby is often busy working.
