Coleen Nolan overcome with emotion as she recalls her experience in The Real Full Monty

Spoke about the show on Loose Women

Coleen Nolan became tearful as her Loose Women co-stars celebrated her involvement in The Real Full Monty: Ladies Night on Tuesday’s show.

The 53-year-old had been a driving force behind having a female version of the ITV show, which urged women to regularly check their breasts for signs of cancer.

Coleen bravely stripped off in front of a live theatre audience in Sheffield last Thursday evening along with Michelle Heaton, Victoria Derbyshire, Megan McKenna, Sarah-Jane Crawford, Ruth Madoc, Helen Lederer and Sally Dexter.

On today’s Loose Women, her friends showed highlights of the performance choreographed by Ashley Banjo, which ended with the women throwing off their bras to reveal all to the audience.

Coleen couldn’t be in the studio to discuss the moment as she was looking after her poorly daughter, but she spoke via video link about how emotional it had been.

Wiping tears from her eyes, she said: “I’ve just got emotional again watching it back. It was just an amazing experience, I am so proud of us all.”

She added that it has all been worth it because they have been able to spread their message of getting regular health check-ups.

“So many people have been in touch to say they have made appointments they had been putting off and they have been checking themselves,” she said.

“It was a long nine weeks and we wanted to get the right point across and we think we did. I am so proud of the girls.”

Janet Street-Porter told Coleen she “couldn’t get over how brave” they all were, singling out broadcaster Victoria Derbyshire, 49, who had stripped off after having an elective mastectomy to treat breast cancer.

Coleen agreed, also praising former Liberty X singer Michelle, 38, who chose to have a double mastectomy when she discovered she had the faulty BRCA2 gene, which makes her at higher risk of getting breast cancer in the future.

Coleen said: “Victoria and Michelle have been affected personally so it was a really hard process for them. It was for all of us but they bear the scars of their cancer.

“It was an emotional moment to see them own it.”

She continued: “We all had our dips where we thought we couldn’t do it. I genuinely meant it when I said I didn’t think I could do that final reveal. The girls got me through it because I couldn’t let them down.”

The Loose Women then nearly made Coleen cry again when they showed video messages from some of the other women saying they couldn’t have done it without her.

Michelle said: “I wanted to say thanks because I couldn’t have got through the last few weeks without you and I certainly wouldn’t have bared all if it wasn’t for you.”

Victoria agreed saying: “We could not have bared all without the courage you gave us. Because of your wisdom and witticisms we did it!”

No doubt Coleen will now be trying to get her fellow Loose Women signed up for another show next year!

What an amazing show it was!
