Coronation Street viewers were left terrified that Johnny Connor had died last night.
The businessman was caught by police after snatching granddaughter Susie.
His lover Liz McDonald called the police on him after tracking him down, but when he realised the authorities were coming he fled.
Johnny was later found unconscious by a canal by the police.
It left his wife Jenny Bradley fearing he had tried to take his own life.

And viewers were terrified too.
Johnny had been struggling with his overwhelming grief after son Aidan took his own life earlier this year.
One viewer wrote: “So it looks like Johnny tried to kill himself.
“I don’t think he’ll be going to prison, I think he’ll get sectioned to a mental health unit.”
A second said: “No, please let Johnny be okay.”
Another added: “Please don’t tell me Johnny tried to kill himself.”
Johnny was rushed to hospital and regained consciousness with Jenny and Liz devastated for him.
But Johnny had his own bombshell to drop when he ended his affair with Liz and opted to stay with Jenny despite not loving her.
He told a devastated Liz: “You betrayed me. I’ve lost Susie for good now. You now what I’ve been going through.

“I’ve been out of my mind with grief. I trusted you to look out for me.
“To tell you the truth, I’m glad you made that phone call and shown me what you’re really like.”
He added: “I want my family, not you.”
