Corrie boss Kate Oates has confirmed that the soap will go from five to six episodes a week in the autumn – and it means that storylines are set to get even juicier.
“There has to be loads of story going on as we go to six episodes in the autumn,” she told The Sun. “There will be lots of different character groups and tonnes of stories.

“The idea is that by the time we come to the six episodes, we will have loads going on and lots for the audience to talk about – the whole fabric will be very rich.
“We have a start date in the ether but it’s not completely confirmed yet.”
She added that the cast and crew will be “absolutely fine” as they adjust to the changes.

The decision to change to six episodes was made last year. Coronation Street has been on five nights a week since 2009.
In the 1980s, it was on just two nights a week.
Last year it was reported that some cast and crew were angry at the changes, and they were concerned that the show’s quality could suffer.
“They believe many more cast will need to be hired to cope,” said a source.
“If they don’t then the existing cast are going to be worked to the bone to fill the extra half an hour slot. It’s the same with the crew.”
ITV’s director of television Kevin Lyco said last year: “I’m a lifelong fan of Coronation Street and one of the first things I wanted to explore when I became director of television was taking the production to six episodes a week.
“The soaps are the cornerstone of the ITV schedule, and Coronation Street continues to produce some of the finest drama and comedy on television. ”
