The role eventually went to Daniel Craig and Tristan went on to join Corrie as Bistro co-owner Robert.

He opened up about the audition process to play 007, admitting: “I auditioned to play James Bond before Daniel Craig.

“They saw pretty much every actor in England who could walk upright.

“I met the cast director and between us on her desk were piles of DVDs of Ewan McGregor movies, Jude Law movies and Hugh Jackman movies. I could barely see her over this pile of DVDs. So what chance did I stand in that company?”

He then went on to joke that he was no longer free should Craig be giving up the role because he was contracted to Corrie, but that he might be able to “take a couple of weeks off” if producers wanted to consider him!

Most viewers certainly weren’t against the idea of Tristan donning the famous tux and drinking martinis. Writing on Twitter, they insisted he’d make “an amazing” Bond.

Robert’s current storyline sees him in love with Michelle Connor, who’s going through a messy split from her husband Steve McDonald.

Good guy Robert is playing the long game and waiting until Michelle is ready, but Tristan revealed on the show that Robert “could be” lining himself up for a fall.

With Michelle in emotional turmoil, and Steve desperate for another shot at their marriage, will Robert ever get the chance to prove he’s the man she needs?
