Countdown star Susie Dent on cancer scare
Back in November 2023, Countdown star Susie appeared on Chris Evans’ show on Virgin Radio.
During her appearance, Susie revealed that she’d been diagnosed with cancer – however, it had been caught in the early stages.
“I had one [a carcinoma] under my eye, a few years ago now. And it just felt like a little cut. So it was a kind of linear one and just wouldn’t heal. And I just kept putting lots of different cream on it. So, I had it for too long. I had it for about a year,” she said.
“My GP said, ‘I’m going to say the word carcinoma, but don’t panic.’ And then they took it off, they kind of excised it. So I’ve got a bit of a kind of scar under my eye,” she then continued.

The star then continued.
“Just beware, because they don’t always look like moles or things that you would expect, and they can just look like little cuts,” she said.
Susie said that she’s usually “really good” at going to the doctors. However, in this instance, she just thought she had a cut below her eye and didn’t think about it.
“Never be too embarrassed if it does end up being something that is completely benign,” she said.
Susie’s career
Susie has been on Countdown since 1992, and is currently the longest-running member of cast.
She has appeared on over 5,000 episodes in the 30 years since first joining the show.
Susie also appears on 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, alongside her co-star Rachel Riley.
The TV star was married to husband Paul, with whom she had two daughters. However, it was announced they’d split in 2021 after 20 years of marriage.
