Danny Dyer has filmed an emotional appearance on show Lip Sync Battle miming to pal Amy Winehouse’s classic Back To Black.
In scenes which will be shown next month EastEnders’ favourite tough guy reportedly became visibly emotional during the recording of his tribute to the late singer.
Danny struggled to hold back the tears as channelled his pal Amy on Channel 5’s popular show Lip Sync Battle.
The tragic singer, who was also a close friend, passed away in 2011 of accidental alcohol poisoning.
Dressed up in Amy’s trademark look including a beehive wig, Danny allegedly struggled to keep his composure as he chose to impersonate the Grammy Award-winning singer whose hits included Rehab, and Valerie.
TV insiders say he nearly broke down towards the end of the song as it brought back so many memories of his friendship with the singer.
“Danny was proper welling up,” a source told The Sun
“He may have been dressed comically but he really put his heart and soul into the performance.
“Danny used to knock about with Amy before she died and they were close pals. It was important for him to pay a fitting tribute.”
The 39-year-old’s emotionally fuelled performance sees him battle it out with Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood.
As well as Danny taking on Craig, the new series of the show, which is hosted by former Spice Girl Mel B and rapper Professor Green, will also see stars including comic Alexander Armstrong, ex-Towie star Joey Essex, Katie Price and he ex-husband Peter Andre, although not on the same episodes.
Danny has been letting his hardman image slip of late. He recently married wife Joanne Mas in September in an intimate ceremony in Hampshire, England, after Joanne popped the question on Valentine’s Day last year.
He told Hello! magazine in an interview accompanied by pictures of their big day: “To be standing here with the girl I grew up with – looking so beautiful in her wedding dress – that is a lovely thing.”
