This Morning debates vibrators for teen girls

It was too much for some viewers

This Morning has come under fire today after holding a discussion about giving teenage girls vibrators to educate them about pleasure.

The debate followed newspaper headlines yesterday after a chief pleasure officer – yes, that is someone’s actual job title –  said young women should be introduced to sex toys in a bid to banish the taboo surrounding female masturbation.

Stephanie Alys of MysteryVibe, a London-based sex tech company told The Times: “We talk about a pay gap between men and women, but there is also a pleasure gap.”

Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield were joined by Annabelle Knight, a sex expert, who was in agreement with the proposal, and Judi Love, who opposed it.

Annabelle, who apparently owned her first vibrator at 15, said: “We want to promote a healthy and happy sexual approach for young people across the board.

“I think in society we don’t talk about the female side of pleasure.”

On the subject of sex toys she said: “It’s the cherry on top of masturbation. It’s not a necessity but it’s helping you explore your sexuality.”

Judi said to Holly: “We have young boys locked in their rooms playing computer games, now you’re going to have young girls in their room with their vibrator. I couldn’t imagine, could you imagine Holly?”

Naturally, the topic caused some controversy among viewers.

Watching @thismorning” Should you give your teenage daughter a vibrator” why would this even be an option? Just so wrong.

It seems Phillip couldn’t resist trying to lighten the mood a little, closing the segment by saying it had created “mass debate” – which at least amused some viewers.
