Debbie Rush open to Anna Windass’ fatal exit from Coronation Street

Is this really the last we've seen of Anna?

After last night’s Corrie saw Anna Windass facing a five-year stretch in prison for a crime she didn’t commit, actress Debbie Rush has admitted that she wouldn’t have minded if her character had been killed off.

Fans of the show have been left fuming at the fact evil Pat Phelan has managed to pull the wool over everyone’s eyes once again, leaving Anna to take the blame for Seb’s nasty fall from a ladder.

But when we caught up with Debbie Rush, the actress who plays doomed Anna, she revealed that when she made the decision to leave Coronation Street, she left details of Anna’s exit in the hands of the show’s writers…

“I was happy to let things roll and go how they go,” she revealed.

“I said it was up to the writers to do whatever they like for the character. Even if the door is shut permanently. I wasn’t bothered either way.”

Debbie also went on to say that she has throughly enjoyed filming the whole Phelan and Anna storyline that lead to her exit…

“I have found this storyline exhausting, but more than that it’s been exhilarating and I’ve loved doing it.

“Connor McIntyre, who plays Phelan, is lovely. Whenever we finished a scene we’d always have a cuddle.

“He always suggested we had a fight arranger on set, but I didn’t want a stunt person. I told him to throw me on the floor so it looks real. He’s on the same page as me, which is great!”

But Debbie has also admitted that this might not be the last we’ve heard from Anna…

In a video posted by Coronation Street on their official Instagram page, the actress told fans: “So Anna has been sentenced to five years in prison and did she think it would come to this in the end? No I don’t think she did.

“I think she thought the truth would come out, but that unfortunately was not to be.

“I’m hoping the way we left the story last night, I’m sure our wonderful viewers will realise that there’s more to be had within Anna’s mind about what she can do and how she can finally bring the big baddie Phelan to justice.

“I’m absolutely sure of it.”
