Denise Van Outen previously recalled the horror surgery she had to undergo following a fall.
The TV star, 50, has been a staple on screens for years. From stints on The Big Breakfast to Channel 4’s Secrets of Supermarket Buyers – which airs tonight (April 2-) – Denise has kept herself booked and busy!
And back in 2012, she took part in BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing – but things took a seriously dramatic turn following a shock fall that resulted in Denise having to undergo grisly surgery.

Denise was one of the many famous faces who took part in the 2012 series of Strictly Come Dancing.
On the glitzy BBC One show, she was partnered with professional dancer James Jordan – and the pair became the runners-up.
However, disaster struck when Denise was accidentally dropped on her head during a rehearsal.
Talking to Lorraine Kelly on her ITV chat show in 2022, Denise detailed the horrific ordeal.
The Scottish star said: “The operation they had to do on your back – they had to go in through your throat in order to get to your spine. It was awful.”
Denise ‘had to have her voice box out’
Denise then explained: “I did have a fall and I was dropped on my head and my neck went.
“I slipped three discs in my spinal cord and I did the final of Strictly Come Dancing with steroid injections. I don’t know how I got through it.”
Talking about the operation, Denise explained: “I had major surgery and they had to take my voice box out.
“They were worried I would never be able to sing again, because you can get hoarse voice after an operation like that.”
Denise’s private recovery
Denise then revealed why she didn’t speak publicly about the operation.
“The rehabilitation was quite a long time. But I kept it very private just because as much as I’m out there and I talk about things, there are some things in my life that I do like to keep private,” she shared.
“I wasn’t looking for public sympathy, I just wanted to heal on my own.”
Denise went on to say: “I’m fine now. I’ve got a small scar on my neck, so I get asked quite a lot on TV what the scar is from.”
