Dermot O’Leary reveals plans to crack America with new TV show

He's filmed a pilot for Fox

Dermot O’Leary has revealed he hopes to follow in the footsteps of James Corden, Cat Deeley and Mark Wright by becoming a successful British host of a US TV show.

The X Factor presenter told The Sun Online he could secure a top job Stateside after filming a pilot for Fox.

Dermot said: “It’s this man versus robot show. It was all just AI [artificial intelligence] against this poor family from Tennessee who were really freaked out by it. It was a world of fun.”

If the show works out and Dermot moves abroad, it would certainly be a big loss for UK viewers and listeners.

His popularity was confirmed yesterday when he won Best Radio Personality at the TRIC awards for his BBC Radio2 Saturday morning show.

However, the 44-year-old’s fans can rest assured he’s still set to front the next series of The X Factor.

He confirmed he’s already had meetings with producers to discuss the format – but he said there’s no news yet on who will – or won’t – be returning as judges.

If Dermot does manage to crack America, he’ll become another successful Brit abroad.

Cat Deeley has become a household name in the States as the presenter of So You Think You Can Dance?, while James Corden has been such a hit he’s now the host of the Late Late Show.

More recently, TOWIE’S Mark Wright has hit the jackpot by becoming a presenter for Extra.

He admitted he’s had to have elocution lessons to tone down his Essex accent so he can be understood by the American audience.

In 2014, Cheryl was famously dropped from The American X Factor, with some saying it was because her Newcastle accent could not be deciphered without subtitles.

However, Cheryl insisted in an interview with Press Association she’d never had any difficulties with her accent in the US.

“Americans can always understand me. I’ve been here a lot, I’ve got a lot of American friends,” she said. “And I’m proud of my accent.”

Their loss is our gain!
