Strictly’s Dianne Buswell shares her heartbreak after being told she’s ‘not good or skinny enough’

'You don't have to be perfect'

Star of Strictly Dianne Buswell has opened up to fans on Instagram about how she has been made to feel as if she wasn’t “enough”.

The pro dancer won Strictly last year alongside Chris McCausland. In a recent upload, she revealed the blind comedian has helped her see her worth. The post was originally inspired by Demi Moore’s recent Golden Globes victory.

Demi Moore’s heartfelt Golden Globes speech

While sharing a video clip of Demi at the Golden Globes talking about the struggles of fame, Dianne revealed that she identified with what the Charlie’s Angels star was saying.

In her speech, Demi said: “Thirty years ago, I had a producer tell me that I was a ‘popcorn’ actress and at that time, I made that mean that this wasn’t something that I was allowed to have, that I could do movies that were successful, that made a lot of money, but that I couldn’t be acknowledged.

I can’t tell you how many times I have been told in my dance career that I’m not good enough, smart enough, skinny enough, technical enough.

“I bought in, and I believed that, and that corroded me over time, to the point where I thought a few years ago that maybe this was it, maybe I was complete. I’ve done what I was supposed to do.

“And as I was at kind of a low point, I had this magical, bold, courageous, out-of-the-box, absolutely bonkers script come across my desk called The Substance, and the universe told me that you’re not done.”

Despite the hurdles, Demi stated that she recognises that she “does belong” and is still going strong.

Dianne Buswell said Demi’s speech ‘really hits home’

Taking to her Instagram Story, Dianne responded to the heartfelt speech. She said: “I can’t tell you how many times I have been told in my dance career that I’m not good enough, smart enough, skinny enough, technical enough… this really hits home!

“And totally what Chris and I was all about – that you don’t have to be perfect to be successful.”

In the past, Dianne has been no stranger to discussing her struggles. During an interview with This Morning, she opened up about her eating disorder.

“I think it comes from when I was quite a young girl. And obviously growing up in the dance world, you’re taught to look a certain way and you see all these other beautiful girls dancing,” she explained.

Dianne recalled going to dance companies that participated in a “weekly weight-in” to monitor people’s weight.

“It was quite intense and it got to a point where I didn’t want to dance anymore. I was afraid to go on stage,” she said.
