He’s earned himself legions of enemies as arrogant adulterer Simon in Doctor Foster – and real-life alter-ego Bertie Carvel hasn’t gained many new fans today.
The actor appeared on the This Morning sofa ahead of tonight’s screening of the final episode of the second series.
But it was a bit of a futile exercise, as he claimed he was unable to discuss anything about what’s to come in the thrilling drama.
“There are ninjas waiting in the wings to kill me if I say anything,” he told Holly and Phil.
And that’s fair enough – we can well imagine he was being glared at by the show’s publicists who don’t want a second of the script leaked ahead of broadcast.
But then he started to spout a lot of luvvie nonsense, such as “is this guy a villain or is there a nuanced three-dimensional character?” and “writing something in conversation with the nation’s appetite for revenge”.
Errr. Basically, we all want to know if there’s going to be any more rumpy pumpy and if someone will end up dead.
It’s fair to say this thespy waffle didn’t ingratiate him to the audience, many of whom have been hooked on Doctor Foster for the past five Tuesdays.
He also wouldn’t be drawn on whether there would be a third series, so that was new-level annoying.
Viewers lit up Twitter with their disgruntlement:
Tune into Doctor Foster for many of the answers Bertie couldn’t give on BBC One tonight at 9p
