Eamonn Holmes has shared his upset as his son Jack headed to university for the first time.
The This Morning star, who shares the 18-year-old with wife and fellow presenter Ruth Langsford, admitted he felt “strange” as his youngest flew the nest yesterday (September 23).
Reflecting on the day, Eamonn shared a snap of the family’s dog Maggie as she laid on the carpet.
What did Eamonn Holmes say?
The 60-year-old admitted: “It’s a strange night in our house tonight.
“Jack has left for uni and Maggie isn’t the only one feeling his absence.”
Fans were quick to comment their support, with one saying: “Poor Maggie, poor Ruth and poor you. As delighted as we are to see our children happy and moving on it’s hard. Sending best wishes.”
A second wrote: “Ahh wishing Jack all the best x.”

Another said: “Poor Maggie she is such a lovely dog, Ruth and Eamonn be so proud of your son as he will always need you both always.”
Meanwhile, presenter Gaby Roslin added: “It’s a horribly empty and sad feeling. I remember last year I was in bits. Sending you and @ruthlangsford big huge hugs.”
Eamonn Holmes: Family life
Eamonn has three further children with his first wife, Gabrielle Holmes – Declan, 31, Rebecca, 29, and Niall, 27.
During lockdown, the ITV star admitted he rarely spent time with his youngest Jack – despite isolating together in their Surrey home.
He said on Instagram Live: “I love getting my kids together, all four of them and their partners.
“Funny enough the 18-year-old who lives in this house somewhere, we’re not sure where, he keeps odd hours, goes to bed in the early hours of the morning and then gets up in the early hours of the afternoon, but apparently he has his little room where he’s ‘studying’ above the garage.
“I never see him until we have a family conference on zoom and then he pops up and then I remember he lives in the house with us.”
Meanwhile, Ruth, 60, previously opened up on her worry about Jack leaving for university.

She told Hello! magazine: “I feel that we have done a really good job creating this lovely young man who we are now sending off into the world for his own adventures, which is very exciting.”
“But we will both miss him hugely, I can’t imagine what it will be like not to see him every day.
“It will be just Eamonn and I. And I see that as a new adventure for us.”
