Eamonn Holmes shares heartfelt tribute after wife Ruth’s sister dies

Eamonn Holmes has sent an emotional message to fans after his wife’s sister passed away.

This Morning faves Eamonn and Ruth Langsford are in mourning after Ruth’s sister Julia died following a long illness last week.

Ruth revealed on Thursday (June 20) that her older sister Julia, 62, had passed away after a “very long illness”.

Opening Friday’s This Morning last week, Eamonn explained to viewers that Rylan Clark-Neal would be filling in for Ruth as she took some time off to grieve.

And last night, Eamonn released an emotional statement on Twitter thanking fans for their “kindness and compassion”.

“I just wanted to say, if I haven’t done so directly, Thank u for your kindness and compassion towards Ruth and the loss of her sister Julia,” he wrote.

He continued: “We both loved and cared for Julia with all our hearts and will miss her forever.

“Your love and kind words have been a great help. Thank you.”

Many of Eamonn’s 990,000 followers were quick to send their love and support.

Gogglebox’s Malone family said: “Love and prayers to you and all the family.”

Another wrote: “For what its worth @EamonnHolmes prayers for you and Ruth. May her dear sister rest in peace and rise in glory.”

Elsewhere, Strictly’s Ore Oduba wrote: “So much love to Ruth, you and the family Eamonn.”

Tamzin Outhwaite also sent her best wishes, saying, “Sending you both lots of love,” followed by a heart emoji.

On Friday (June 21), Rylan stepped in for Ruth as she took time out to grieve her sister’s death.

An emotional Eamonn said: “Before we get underway let me explain why it is Rylan and myself today. You may be aware of the terrible bereavement Ruth had yesterday.”

He went on to read out Ruth’s Twitter tribute to her sister, before struggling to carry on and Rylan comforted his co-star and read out the rest.

Thanking Rylan, Eamonn said: “No one understands more than our friend and our colleague Rylan, who has been a great comfort to Ruth and a great help by stepping in today for her.”
