Eamonn Holmes has suggested that Cheryl Tweedy is grabbing all the attention on her new show, The Greatest Dancer, and that she isn’t a true “icon” in the music industry.
In a discussion about The Voice and the new dance show, Eamonn talked about the importance of “likeability” for the judges.
Speaking on TV podcast Series Linked, the This Morning host said: “I get the feeling this is a vehicle for Cheryl. Is this about people or is it about Cheryl?”
He added: “The difference there is someone who is perceived to be an icon and someone who actually is a living legend – Sir Tom Jones.”
Eamonn also didn’t seem too impressed by The Greatest Dancer’s format, which sees auditionees dance in front of a mirror that opens up to reveal the audience.
He continued: “I loved the concept that the mirror is a window into the audience and the audience is voting but that’s a bit of Michael McIntyre. Every show steals from other shows. But technically it was all bells and whistles.”
The Greatest Dancer aired for the first time last Saturday and was met with mixed reviews. The show also lost out in the ratings battle with The Voice.
The star’s comments about former X Factor judge Cheryl come at an awkward time.
Dancing On Ice judge Jason Gardiner has also slammed the Girls Aloud singer’s place on The Greatest Dancer, arguing that her dance experience was “questionable.”

Poor Chez has received quite a bit of backlash lately.
The 35-year-old was also branded “embarrassing” when she gave a dance masterclass in body popping on The Greatest Dancer’s Instagram page last month.
