Sir Elton John has revealed that his two sons “worry” about his mortality following his recent health scare.
Elton, 77, and his husband David Furnish, 61, share sons Zachary, 13, and Elijah, 11.
And in a new documentary about his life, the pop icon opens up about their worries for their father.
Elton John health
In Elton John: Never Too Late, he says: “They think about my mortality. They worry about my mortality. Not so much David, but me.”
He continues to say Zachary and Elijah “love their daddy, so they want me to be around forever, [and] I would love to be around forever”.
The legendary singer adds: “I want to see them have children and get married. I don’t think I’m going to be around for that. Who knows? You never know.
“So that’s why I want to use the best time — the best of my time — while I’m around. Time together is so wonderful and so precious.”
Elton retired from touring last year following his mammoth Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour, which ran for five years.
The 330-date tour culminated in Stockholm, Sweden, last July, less than two weeks after his iconic Glastonbury headline set.
Elton’s year of health woes
This year has been full of health woes for Elton, with him undergoing a knee replacement in January.
He is scheduled for a second surgery later this year, with David optimistically suggesting that fans might see Elton “breakdancing down the carpet next year”.
And Elton recently told fans he has been left with “limited vision” in one eye.
He wrote in a statement shared to his Instagram: “Over the summer, I’ve been dealing with a severe eye infection that has unfortunately left me with only limited vision in one eye.
“I am healing, but it’s an extremely slow process and it will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye.”
He continued: “I am so grateful for the excellent team of doctors and nurses and my family, who have taken such good care of me over the last several weeks.
“I have been quietly spending the summer recuperating at home, and am feeling positive about the progress I have made in my healing and recovery thus far.”
Elton John: Never Too Late will be released on Disney+ on December 13.
