Embarrassing mistake in EastEnders leaves fans scratching their heads

Georgi’s baby is born without an umbilical cord

EastEnders fans were left bemused after spotting a bit of a blunder during Georgi’s ‘miracle birth’ scenes.

The babe was born without an umbilical cord!

Eagle-eyed viewers on Thursday (22 February) were quick to call-out the BBC soap when they noticed Georgi’s baby popped out without the very essential part of the body, which is usually cut off minutes after birth.

Not so in Walford, it would seem. With some fans even calling the newborn “an alien”.

In dramatic scenes which took place in the Queen Vic, Georgi’s waters broke and she went into labour before her time.

Unable to get to a hospital in time, the newcomer – a friend of Tina Carter’s daughter Zsa Zsa  – was forced to give birth in the upstairs bedroom with Tina (Luisa Bradshaw-White) playing midwife.

After some huffing and puffing, a baby boy appeared and was passed to ecstatic new mum Georgi (Holly Donovan). But baffled fans took to Twitter in their droves accusing the soap of a lack of authencity.

One dripped sarcasm when she wrote: “So, the baby with no umbilical cord was realistic.”

Another tweeted: “A super clean baby without umbilical cord…Alien baby.#EastEnders”

Others criticised the size of the baby, suggesting it was on the large size for a boy supposed to be premature.

There were also social media commentators who defended the soap, reminding everyone it IS only TV and that the scenes are played out by actors.

Would viewers really want to see a realistic childbirth while they ate their evening meal anyway?
