Emmerdale and Benidorm actor passes away suddenly aged 71

Tributes have already started pouring in

Benidorm star Bobby Knutt, who played Eddie Dawson in the comedy series, has suddenly passed away at age 71.

The actor has also previously starred in long-running soap Emmerdale playing Albert Dingle back in 1995.

Comedian Bobby also had roles in Heartbeat and Last Of The Summer Wine.

Bobby was also a regular on the pantomime circuit in Sheffield.

It’s not yet been confirmed how Bobby died but tributes have already started pouring in.

Writer of sitcom Benidorm Darren Litten announced the sad news to fans of the show.

He wrote: “Very sad Benidorm news guys. The wonderful Bobby Knutt has passed away suddenly aged 71. Sending our Beni love to his family.”

The Benidorm TV show account tweeted: “Benidorm star and Sheffield legend Bobby Knutt passes away aged 71. Good night Knutty, your Benidorm family loves you. X.”

Fans rushed to send their condolences to Bobby’s family and friends.

One tweeted: “Well what sad news #RIPBobbyKnutt.”

Another added: “So sad to hear this! Worked with the lovely Knutt in panto, had so much fun with him! RIP.”

A third said: “Gutted he was a great character and sure equally a great man RIP Bobby Knutt condolences to all his family and friends.”

Bobby was married to Donna Harley-Wass, a bronze medalist in the 1980 Olympic Games.

She sadly passed away in June 2013 aged 58.

In 1965 Bobby became one of the youngest professional comedians in the country.

Since then he starred in Last of the Summer Wine as Stanley and garage boss Ron Sykes in ITV’s Coronation Street.

More recently Bobby became a favourite in Benidorm as his role as Eddie as part of the Dawson family which took over from the Garveys.
