Emmerdale fans heartbroken by Graham’s savage “murder” of Joe

Is it the end for the double act?

| Updated:

The ghosts of the past came back to haunt Graham Foster last night – and he DID look back in anger.

Joe Tate’s henchman, full of mystery and brooding, was tormented by memories of his wife Cheryl on the anniversary of her death.

Viewers know that alcoholic Graham was responsible for the death of his wife and their unborn baby, in a drink drive crash.

In dramatic scenes shown in last night’s double bill (Tuesday 31 July), Graham went on the rampage, drinking heavily and raging at the world.

He tried to pick a fight with Frank Clayton AND Cain Dingle, before his fury eventually came down full force on boss Joe Tate – who he savagely beat and left for dead.

During the episode, which used flashbacks to reveal some of Graham’s hidden torment, we learnt that Joe had saved Graham’s life by dragging him from the burning car he had crashed.

When Joe claimed Graham was “relieved” his wife and unborn child had died in the blaze, he went into a furious rage.

Kind of understandable, though!

As Graham landed punch after punch on Joe, viewers were left in disbelief as Joe’s lifeless body was left beaten to a pulp on the ground.

Many were upset that the double act had come to such a bloody end.

One emotional viewer tweeted: “What an episode! Graham better not have killed Joe.. no way! Seriously good stuff.”

Another wrote: “Love Graham & Joe, but them fighting like that, not good, stop already, how is one of the best double act since Cain & Moira , gona come back from this, PLEASE SORT THIS OUT.”

A third wasn’t happy at all, however, and warned: “If emmerdale have killed off joe I’m boycotting the show, goodnight.”

Others, however, were bothered by something else altogether…

They called the ITV soap out for what they thought was a blunder – Joe’s shoe falling off mid-beating.

One bemused fan remarked: “Ok but how did his shoe come off!?”

Another joked: “Blimey. Graham hit Joe so hard his shoe fell off!”

The last viewers saw of Graham, he was once again haunted by the ghost of his dead wife who asked a bloodied Graham: “What did you do?”

Has Graham really killed Joe? And is there any way Graham can rehabilitate himself in the village after this?
