It was a sad day for Emmerdale viewers and Eric Pollard alike when Val lost her life to a shard of glass (what a way to go).
The larger than life character had been the cornerstone of the soap’s comedy – and no one in the Dales has come close to replacing her since.
Now, it seems that Emmerdale’s loss could be Coronation Street’s gain, as rumour reaches us that actress Charlie Hardwick could be gearing up to tread the cobbles.
Asked by the Express if she would like to join another soap, the 56-year-old actress said:
“Do you know, I think I would. I’ve watched Coronation Street all of my life so maybe… or Doctors? Or Hollyoaks?”
This wouldn’t be the first soap transfer for the popular thesp, as she revealed a small part in Walford some years ago.
“I was Sonia’s headmistress in EastEnders 15 years ago so there’d have to be a makeover,” Charlie revealed. “Ooh you never know.”

We DEFINITELY see her as a Corrie queen. Can you imagine her and Liz McDonald propping up the bar in The Rovers?
Val was written out of Emmerdale in a super-dramatic episode back in August, 2015.
She and sister Diane were trapped in a house of mirrors after the helicopter crash and, as they made up following a major family feud, Val told emergency services to get her sister to safety first.

“No take her, she’s got a cut on her head. See, I’m not always selfish,” she said. “Don’t make a stranger of yourself Fireman Sam, and sis, make sure there’s still a crowd when I come out.”
Seeing how precarious the shard above her was, she taunted it to come for her, hamming: “Come on then, do your worst, I’m not frightened of you.
“I’m HIVal, I’m Valerie Pollard of the Valerie Pollard Foundation. I’m Val.”
And with that, the mirror shard fell – and she was gone.
