Emmerdale is about to air an all-female episode for the first time ever in soap history, and it’s set to kick off three big new storylines for some of our favourite characters.
Tonight (Friday 8 March), to celebrate International Women’s Day, Chas Dingle, Charity Dingle and Moira Barton will all be involved in three surprises which will reach far beyond the episode and have repercussions across the village.

Most of the women in the village across the generations will feature in the landmark episode, but eyes should be on Charity, Chas and Moira…
While the episode is being kept shrouded in mystery, we can reveal that Charity heads off on a mysterious mission away from the village after receiving an unexpected phone call on girlfriend Vanessa Woodfield’s birthday.
But who is she going to see and why?

Meanwhile, Chas shares a secret with Laurel Thomas when they both find themselves visiting their lost loved ones at the local graveyard.
Fans are convinced Chas is pregnant, but could this be the real reason for her heart-to-heart with Laurel?
Finally, Moira is alarmed when a mystery intruder creeps around Butler’s Farm… Who is it and do they mean to harm the matriarch?
Tonight’s Emmerdale has been written, directed and produced by women, as well as being recorded by a female-led crew.
Speaking about the significant episode, Executive Producer Jane Hudson commented: “I believe soaps are leading the way with gender equality on set.
“This is a great opportunity for Emmerdale to show the female talent we have both in front and behind the camera.”

In addition, Producer Kate Brooks said: “Our International Women’s Day episode is not only a celebration of women in the broadest sense of the word, but also a showcase for the female talent we have in the television industry.
“We wanted the episode to be character driven and story led, exploring all aspects of what it’s like to be a women in 2019.”
Emma Atkins, who plays Charity Dingle, added: “Charity is on a mission in this episode, and although I can’t give anything away about her scenes, they will have a significant impact going forward.”
Meanwhile, Lucy Pargeter, who plays Chas Dingle, revealed: “My character Chas bonds with Laurel over some news she has, they are not two characters who normally make time for each other so it was lovely working with Charlotte.”
Some critics have slammed the all-female episode, however, with Piers Morgan describing it as “virtue-signalling poppycock”.
