Here’s a little news that might sweeten the bitter pill that is Gemma Atkinson’s reported departure from her role in Emmerdale.
The soap favourite has declared she would love to make a return to her old serial drama stomping ground, Casualty!
Gemma, 32, who began her showbiz career on Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks, has told The Sun:
“I’d love to go back to Casualty – I mean, I’ve always said never say never.
“You know, I think if anything is left open, which Casualty was for me, you know the odd cameo here and there isn’t going to hurt anyone.
“I’m still in touch with Matt Bardock, who played Jeff, and Jane Hazlegrove, who’s Dixie.
“When we were at the NTAs recently and they won best drama it was so brilliant and I was so happy for them.
“I went over and had a chat with them all. And we won best soap so they all came over and congratulated me.
“That’s the one thing I like about soap, everyone’s pasts always seem to cross. There’s always a nice mutual support for everyone.”
Aww. The 32-year-old played paramedic Tamzin Bayle in the BBC drama until 2014, leaving when her on-screen lover Jeff Collier was killed.
She has played bubbly Carly Hope in Emmerdale for the past two years.
Earlier this month a source close to the soap told The Sun that she was quitting to focus on other ventures.
They apparently said: “Gemma has loved her time at Emmerdale, and she isn’t saying it’s for good, but she’s taking an extended break to focus on other avenues.”
Those avenues, other than Casualty, include Bollywood. The blonde beauty has already dipped her toes into the billion-dollar movie industry, appearing in a Bond-style thriller called Fever last year.
Gemma was invited to star in the film after its director Rajeev Jhaveri saw some racy pictures of the fitness fan.
Speaking of the experience, Gemma gushed: “I absolutely loved [it] and if the opportunity arose again I would most definitely take part in it because it’s a great industry to be in.
“The people were fabulous and it was an amazing experience.”
