In fairness, it was Marlon who sent her away. The episode opened with her down on one knee begging Marlon to marry her.
He was hesitant, but when April and Paddy arrived at the wrong moment, Carly told them they were getting hitched.

But it wasn’t to be. Once they were alone again, Marlon told her he couldn’t marry her.
“Carly, you are the girl of my dreams, most men’s dreams, but you’d be the wife of my nightmares. I’m so sorry, I can’t marry you.”
Ouch!
As Carly asked him what on earth he meant by that, he tried to explain his rather harsh words:
“It would be a living nightmare to be married to someone who’s in love with someone else,” Marlon tried to make things better.
She replied: “Matt means nothing to me, I’ve told him to leave for good.”
But Marlon knew and he said: “I’ve seen you together…You light up around Matt.”
And when he told her: “I’d marry you this minute if you could look me in the eye and tell me you don’t want Matt,” and Carly couldn’t do it, he asked her to leave.
As she begged and pleaded and sobbed for him to give them a chance, Marlon didn’t want to be second choice and told her he was “kicking her out” and she needed to go and be with Matt.
Elsewhere, Bob Hope was telling Matt to get in his car and go – would he miss Carly?
No, in fact Carly caught him just as he was driving out of town, got in the car, kissed him and told him she was going too.

Viewers were devastated at the fact Carly and Marlon had split and that actress Gemma Atkinson had left the village.
Gemma herself tweeted:
And she has given fans a chink of hope. Speaking to The Sun, she revealed: “I think the possibility of Carly coming back is huge.
“She’s got her dad in the village, and little April. She doesn’t say bye to April so that will weigh heavily on her mind.”
She went on to say Carly will go and be with Matt, but then added: “Carly will return. It’s just figuring out when and why and who she can mess up with when she gets back.”
Gemma also explained why she had decided to leave the soap: “Because this job [Emmerdale] is so comfortable and amazing, I didn’t want to be here for another seven eight years and suddenly be in my forties and still in the same job.
“I’m like Carly, if I get too comfortable with something, I have to go and start something else.”
We hope she’ll be back. And we hope Marlon can find happiness again in the meantime.
