Emmerdale SPOILER: Emma Atkins has great news for Charity Dingle fans

Will the corrupt cop ever be brought to justice?

| Updated:

Charity Dingle has been at the heart of one of the most dramatic storylines of the year.

The feisty pub landlady has had her fair share of tragedy – and has dealt some out, too – but Emmerdale fans saw a more tender side to her recently when she opened up about her horrifying past.

ITV viewers learnt that she was groomed and coerced into becoming a prostitute by someone she should have been able to trust – DI Bails.

As Charity has been forced to confront her demons, DI Bails has been living like a lord in his big house, with his pretty wife and their unborn child.

But perhaps ITV fans will see the villain get his comeuppance, after all.

Emma Atkins, who has played Charity for 18 years, recently revealed that the corrupt copper isn’t out of the woods just yet…

In an interview printed in the Radio Times, Emma hinted at an explosive autumn storyline as DI Bails goes on trial for historic sexual abuse.

She says: “Charity is scared to seek justice because she doesn’t know if she can go up against someone in a position of power such as Bails.

“It’s Charity versus the police force, and he was a cop for so long so there is an element where she wonders if she’ll be believed. Can she go through a massive court case?”

Charity reported Bails earlier this year, with a court case set for September.

But Charity has a secret weapon – her son Ryan, who she believes is Bails’ illegitimate son after he raped her.

Charity adds: “Her son Ryan, who she’s now reunited with, will have to be dragged through the mire. Is that something that will be on her conscience if it goes horribly wrong? I think from a moral aspect she should follow it through because finally she’s spoken about something that is so wrong.

“Bails is naturally going to be wondering what’s in store. He never thought it would come to this so I guess he’ll be terrified.”

She also said the storyline had “humanised” her character, who has done lots of suspect things in the past…

Fans would love to see Bails pay for his crimes, with one saying: “11th September until Bails’ trial. Everybody note that down, put it in their diary because two months from today he’s going down and Charity will get the justice she deserves. I cannot wait.”

We couldn’t agree more!
